Purpose:
A Middle School Teacher is responsible for carrying out the mission of VMS through curriculum development, classroom teaching, assessment, differentiation, classroom management, outdoor education, character development and building rapport with students in and out of the classroom. Our teachers support the mission and philosophy of the school, value the VMS culture, and strive to make our school a better place. They have a deep knowledge of their subject area, and display dedication, passion, and the capacity to help all students succeed. They are committed to pursuing professional development and are life-long learners.
Who You Are:

You hold a Bachelor’s degree; we would love to see an advanced degree as well, but it is not required.

You are fluent in Spanish, native fluency is preferred.

Experienced teaching with a minimum of three years of classroom teaching in independent schools (preferred, but not required).

An expert in your field, passionate about inspiring learning, and skilled at adapting instruction to meet individual student needs.

Skilled in lesson planning, supporting diverse learners, and managing classrooms effectively.

Knowledgeable about equity, inclusion, and belonging, with a commitment to integrating these principles into the classroom. You are dedicated to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment for a diverse student body and faculty.

An effective communicator with students, parents, and colleagues, maintaining professionalism and clarity.

Flexible and willing to participate in school programs beyond regular hours occasionally.

A “raise your hand” type of person, ready to participate fully in the life of the school. You’re interested in participating in school events, like field trips, sitting at lunch tables, assisting with carpool, After School Academy, transporting students using our school vehicles, hut trips, and Ski Fridays (or alternative winter outdoor activities).
What You Will Do:

Teach Spanish language and culture as part of the World Language curriculum for middle school and potentially upper school students.

Teach the Spanish curriculum content and standards to ensure learning and maintain an organized learning management system, ensuring timely grading and resource updates.

Develop engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and inspire creativity and critical thinking.

Support students with diverse learning needs in partnership with Student Support Services and assist students during designated times such as Study Halls and Office Hours.

Incorporate technology effectively to accommodate student needs, including those involved in winter sports programs.

Administer fair and comprehensive assessments, including final exams, and ensure clear and timely communication of student progress and expectations with students, parents, and administrators.

Lead or co-lead a Homebase advisory group of 10-15 students, fostering connections and acting as a primary point of contact.

Collaborate with department members and school leadership to achieve curricular and instructional goals.

Participate in peer review, professional development, and the implementation of the school’s philosophy.
