Upper Division Math Teaching Fellow (25-26 School Year)
Denver Jewish Day School seeks a Teaching Fellow to teach mainly Middle School math in the 2025-26 school-year. The Teaching Fellowship is designed for very recent college (or graduate school) graduates or career changers with a strong interest in teaching in an independent school. The fellowship is intended as a full-time role that would immerse you in the richness of independent school life. Fellows will gain teaching experience and mentorship in a supportive environment.
School Background:
Our pluralistic Jewish community day school prepares and inspires Jewish students through an extraordinary secular and Judaic education to live purposefully, act ethically, and thrive in the world. We serve approximately 330 students in grades PK-12 on a beautiful campus in southeast Denver. Our Upper Division comprises around 150 students in grades 6-12, and most Upper Division faculty teach both middle and high school. Teachers in the Upper Division typically lead classes of fewer than 15 students. Our approximately 35 Upper Division faculty and staff come from diverse backgrounds and share a commitment to caring for and educating young people holistically.
Role and responsibilities of the Math Teaching Fellow:
The Teaching Fellow can expect to teach up to four classes (mainly Middle School) with substantial input and supervision from an experienced mentor teacher. Like all full-time faculty at Denver JDS, Fellows would be encouraged and expected to engage with students in other settings, including advisory, athletics, class trips, elective courses, clubs, and extracurricular activities. Although we are conceiving of the fellowship as a full-time opportunity, we are willing to consider a part-time version of the Fellowship for the right candidate.
Qualifications:
We are looking for passionate educators who are excited about working in a small school environment where it is possible to get to know students well and provide highly individualized guidance and support. Candidates must have aptitude and enthusiasm for quantitative reasoning and modeling; the successful candidate will exhibit an exceptionally strong grasp of all math concepts taught in pre-Algebra and Algebra I courses. The ideal candidate will have a stellar academic background that indicates a potential for deep and creative engagement with content and with kids. Prior formal teaching experience is not required or expected, though some experience working with young people is preferred. An interest in exploring a career in independent schools is essential.
Compensation:
The Fellowship salary is $50,000. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
