Upper Division Science Teacher (25-26 School Year)
The Upper Division (Grades 6-12) at Denver JDS announces the opening of a full-time position teaching science.
Denver Jewish Day School Background:
Our pluralistic Jewish community day school prepares and inspires Jewish students through an extraordinary secular and Judaic education to live purposefully, act ethically, and thrive in the world. We serve approximately 360 students in grades PK-12 on a beautiful campus in southeast Denver. Our Upper Division comprises around 89 middle schoolers in grades 6-8 and around 85 students in high school. Our approximately 35 Upper Division faculty and staff come from diverse backgrounds and share a commitment to caring for and educating young people holistically.
Role and responsibilities of the teacher:
Denver Jewish Day School seeks a dynamic science teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The position entails teaching three or four sections of Middle School Science (two preps) plus an additional class or two (based on areas of interest and expertise). The new science teacher will have an opportunity to shape a Middle School curriculum that focuses on understanding the scientific method and cultivating a sense of wonder and curiosity about natural phenomena. In addition to fulfilling their core teaching responsibilities, full-time faculty at Denver JDS are expected to engage with students in other settings, including advisory, athletics, class trips, Wednesday electives, clubs, and extracurricular activities. Class sizes are small (about 15 students on average), and teachers are typically able to offer students substantial individualized attention. Faculty work closely with our Learning Resource Center staff to help meet the needs of students with learning differences.
Qualifications:
We are looking for passionate educators who are excited about working in a small school environment where it is possible to get to know students well and provide highly individualized guidance and support. The ideal candidate will have a record of excellence in prior teaching roles, experience teaching middle schoolers, exceptional communication skills, deep knowledge in their subject area(s), and an interest in developing creative curricula in collaboration with colleagues. The successful candidate must be excited about teaching middle schoolers.
Compensation:
The salary range is $50,000-$70,000, depending on experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package. Faculty and staff whose children are enrolled at the school receive an automatic 50 percent discount on tuition (additional tuition assistance may be available).
Applicants should send a resume and cover letter to Science Department Chair Melanie Knowles and Middle School Dean Megan Zitron.
