K-4 Literacy/Dyslexia Support Teacher

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide Literacy Support: Deliver specialized, evidence-based instruction to students in grades K-4 to develop their reading, writing, and comprehension skills. 

  • Support Students with Dyslexia: Use proven interventions and strategies to support students with dyslexia and other learning differences. 

  • Collaborate with Classroom Teachers: Work closely with teachers to design individualized support plans and integrate literacy strategies into the general classroom curriculum. 

  • Monitor Student Progress: Conduct ongoing assessments to track student growth, identify areas for improvement, and adjust instruction accordingly. 

  • Empower Learners: Foster a positive learning environment that builds students’ confidence, perseverance, and a love of reading. 

  • Communicate with Families: Maintain open and proactive communication with parents about student progress and strategies for support at home. 

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a resource for teachers, providing guidance and training on literacy instruction and strategies for students with learning differences. 

  • Participate in school committees, events, and extracurricular activities. 

  • Attend faculty meetings, engage in professional development, and contribute to school-wide initiatives. 

Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 

  • Specialized Training: Certification or training in structured literacy approaches such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar programs is highly desirable. 

  • Experience: Experience teaching literacy to elementary-age students and supporting students with dyslexia or other learning challenges. 

  • Expertise: Strong understanding of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy instruction. 

  • Commitment to Diversity: Dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment. 

  • Other Attributes: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, a collaborative spirit, and a positive attitude.
