Friends seeks a First Grade Maternity Leave Lead Teacher who possesses a deep understanding of child development and progressive pedagogy, appreciation for the importance of practicing mindfulness and actively teaching social & emotional skills, and a commitment to diversity social justice & service learning and a demonstration of cultural competency. The successful candidate is devoted to the School’s mission and program and possesses passion and imagination they will bring to our school community.

The First Grade Maternity Leave Lead Teacher reports to the Lower School Program Head and is a member of the Elementary team. The First Grade Maternity Leave Teacher is charged with creation and implementation of curriculum, assessment of and reporting on student progress, communicating student progress and partnering with families.  The First Grade Maternity Leave Teacher should have experience with developmentally appropriate practice, play-based learning, and guiding social emotional learning.

Qualification Requirements:

• Deep respect, understanding, and application of child development - cognitively, affectively, and socially

• View children from a strengths (not deficit) perspective

• Possess joy, a growth mindset, and a sense of humor and commitment to working collaboratively

• Bachelor’s degree 

• Experience in a early elementary classroom 

• Proven success at working collaboratively

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Excellent organizational and presentation skills

• Technologically knowledgeable and skilled

This position is for approximately 12 weeks beginning in approximately late January/early February.

Salary Range:  Salary is based on an hourly rate ranging from $22.60/hr - $29.80/hr and pay is commensurate with experience, degree, and position. Friends School offers sick and vacation leave for this temporary position.
